Knot Rug

Created for the exhibition Fine Design for the End of the World, featuring student work from Cranbrook Academy of Art at the Collective Design Fair, this piece challenges conventional ideas of Fine Design. Using discarded rubber inner tubes, a material typically seen as waste, it is transformed into a refined object through painstaking craft and countless hours of handwork. In an era where the global population grows rapidly while machines increasingly replace human labor, the work asks: What is the value of the human hand? And what worth do we assign to materials deemed disposable?
